Cobalt sulfate, CoSO4
Description
Cobalt sulfate is added to ceramic glazes and clay recipes at a rate of 0.1 to 0.3% to soften the yellow and beige hues in the glaze and clay, making them appear whiter by shifting them toward blue.
Cobalt sulfate is in powder form and should be kept away from water and moisture to prevent clumping.
Cobalt(II) sulfate is the name given to any of the inorganic compounds with the formula CoSO₄ₓ. It generally describes cobalt sulfate, hexahydrate, or heptahydrate, respectively. The heptahydrate is a red solid that is soluble in water and methanol. Because cobalt(II) has an odd number of electrons, its salts are paramagnetic.
